Best Beaches In NYC

If you are not sure what to do on Memorial Day, and you don’t want to leave the city, consider spending your day at the beach! Even though the water might still be a little cold, you can always sunbathe and enjoy a sunny day!

New York City has a lot of beaches worth visiting, and here are a couple of the best ones!

Rockaway Beach

Probably one of the best beaches in NYC. Not far from the subway, Rockaway Beach is very easy to get to. Follow the sound of waves crashing on the shore and you'll find a lot of people with towels and surfboards!

The beach is long, so there is a lot of space if you want to enjoy some privacy or just want to be away from the crowd, it’s easy to achieve. Along the beach, there are food carts and bathrooms, so you will feel comfortable even if you go a little further away.

If you are a surfer and can’t wait for the start of the season, Rockaway Beach is the way to go! A lot of surfers come here during the summer to catch the waves!

You might want to consider checking the train schedule on your way back though. Because of how far Rockaway Beach is, trains do not come as often as they do, for example, in Manhattan. The trick here is to leave the beach around 15 minutes before the train arrives. That way you will have time to pack up and stroll toward the station.

Brighton Beach

Everybody in New York knows Brighton Beach. Close to Coney Island, but a little less crowded, Brighton Beach attracts swimmers and sunbathers every year.

The charm of Brighton Beach is that it is easier to get to, and you can find everything you need around there. If you get tired of sunbathing and decide to grab a quick lunch, there are a whole bunch of small restaurants offering all kinds of food: traditional Russian, seafood, and many others. There are also a bunch of big supermarkets close by, where you can get snacks for a picnic right at the beach.

Brighton Beach is also a great place to take a walk at. Walk along the beach on a nicely paved road, and enjoy the salty breeze and the sound of waves.

Manhattan Beach

Another great beach you should consider visiting is Manhattan Beach. A little smaller and quieter than Brighton Beach and not too far from it, it’s a great place to rest and spend time with your family and friends.

You can not only have a picnic or a barbecue on the shore, but also play tennis, basketball, or even baseball.

It is believed that the water on Manhattan Beach is a little bit warmer than anywhere else in New York because the ocean is a little more shallow there, so you might be able to start your swimming season slightly earlier.

One tip, try to use the subway instead of taking your car there. The parking on the weekend is $22.

Why are you still there? Put on your swimsuit and go enjoy the outdoors!
